beached boats...slipped into history

Holy Island boat sheds

The upturned boats were once part of the largest
herring fleet to sail from the east coast of England.
By the early part of the 20th Century their numbers
had dwindled and many, no longer seaworthy,
had been converted into sheds.
They remain today as a living reminder
of a way of life that has slipped into history.
