arquitectos (Melina Greenberg y Guillermo Trapiello), quienes

Collective light for rural Mali...
The Mali project has been recognised as a process “that has adapted to the organisational, social and cultural peculiarities of the population, involving it in the process of defining and developing a collective lighting system”.
Foroba Yelen, or Collective Light, is the name given by the women of Cinzana, a Malian village, to the lighting prototype designed by the Italian architect Matteo Ferroni following an anthropological study done with the eLand Foundation. This technology, spread in the Commune Rurale de Cinzana by the youth organization ADM Faso Gnietàa, has turned the night into a time devoted to socialize, work and celebrate.

320º Licht
The ‘320° Licht’ installation of URBANSCREEN uses the cathedral-like beauty of the Gasometer Oberhausen as the starting point for a fascinating game with shapes and light.
Within a radius of 320 degrees graphic patterns grow and change on the 100-metre high inside wall of the Gasometer.
The observer experiences the interplay between real and virtual space, in which the Gasometer seems to dissolve into its own, filigree structures and yet finally always reverts to its clear shape. ’320° Licht’ is achieved with kind project support from Epson Germany.
With approx. 20,000 square meters of area played upon, the installation is among the world’s largest and technically most sophisticated interior projections - interconnecting 21 powerful projectors to one projection screen.
Duration (loop): approx. 22 min.
320° Licht' is part of the exhibition ‘The Appearance of Beauty’ - the variety of beauty in art that is shown inside the Gasometer. The Gasometer Oberhausen opens this exhibition from 11th April until 30th December.

Lost in the Line...
by Léopold Lambert, a project presented as a comic book that analyzes the metaphorical use of drawn lines as means of control and power:
"The
line is essentially the medium that we use to create architecture. We
consider a white page and trace a composition of lines that, far from
mere representations, constitute the potential embodiment of surfaces
in the material realm. Those same surfaces have an incidence –we
might say a violence- on the bodies that are subjected to them. The
act of drawing, in the context of design, cannot be innocent. The
subjectivization of the bodies is precisely what constitutes a weapon
and its management is the essence of politics. Architecture is
therefore inherently political, whether it is intended as such or
not. To try to defuse architecture would be useless. Instead, we
might strive to use its weaponized characteristics in favor of
personal or collective ethics." L. Lambert
"My
architectural work attempts to articulate itself within a context
created by a society that proclaimed itself as “post-ideological.”
Estimating architecture’s real power does not make it the
thaumaturgic entity that the modernists perceived; on the contrary,
we must recognize the violent characteristics embodied within it and
use them in the frame of a political manifesto."-Léopold

absurdity can set you free...
«A
prisoner paints a landscape on the wall of his cell showing a
miniature train entering a tunnel. When his jailers come to get him,
he asks them politely to wait a moment, "to allow me to verify
something in the little train in my picture. As usual, they started
to laugh, because they considered me to be weak-minded. I made myself
very tiny, entered into my picture and climbed into the little train,
which started moving, then disappeared into the darkness of the
tunnel. For a few seconds longer, a bit of flaky smoke could be seen
coming out of the darkness of the round hole. Then this smoke blew
away, and with it the picture, and with the picture, my person…”
How many times poet-painters, in their prisons, have broken through
walls, by way of a tunnel! How many times, as they painted their
dreams, they have escaped through a crack in the wall! …If need be,
mere absurdity can be a source of freedom.»
